Lip Enhancement

The lips are an important feature of the face, accentuating its overall beauty. Many women feel their lips aren’t full enough, so they opt for lip enhancement.

What is lip enhancement?

Lip enhancement allows women to have fuller lips. The injection of dermal fillers is the common method used to augment the lips. During your initial consultation with Dr. Acosta, a thorough evaluation will be done to identify the dermal filler that best suits you.

What are dermal fillers?

Fillers are substances injected into the lips to increase their volume. Juvederm Ultra is the most common dermal fillers used for lip enhancement. Juvederm Ultra is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and binds with water.

What are the benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers during lip enhancement?

Since hyaluronic acid fillers are made from substances that are naturally found in the body, allergic reactions are unlikely. However, if you are allergic to lidocaine, inform Dr. Acosta before your treatment. These fillers also offer reasonably long-lasting results, usually six months or more. Plus, the amount of substance to be injected is easy to control, giving the doctor better control on your lip volume.

Who is a good candidate for lip enhancement?

A good candidate is someone who is in good overall health. Those with an existing cold sore, blood clotting problems, any lip scarring, or certain diseases such as diabetes may not be good candidates for the procedure.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Lip enhancement is quick and requires little to no downtime. Before commencing with the injections, a numbing agent will be applied to your lips to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Very fine needles will then be used to deliver the filler.

What can you expect following a lip enhancement procedure?

Immediately after the procedure, you may be advised to avoid lip products, like lipstick. Most of our patients usually notice a difference in the appearance of their lips immediately after the procedure. You may also experience some side effects, including swelling, bruising, or bleeding on the injection sites, but these are only temporary and will fade after a few days.

The effects of these fillers usually last six months. After that span of time, additional injections will be needed to maintain your results.
